UNDERSTANDING THE BASICS
What Is Teeth Whitening?
Professional teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental treatment that uses prescription-strength bleaching agents to remove stains and discoloration from your teeth. Unlike over-the-counter whitening strips or toothpastes, professional treatments deliver dramatic, even results in far less time.
Teeth become stained for many reasons: coffee, tea, red wine, and colored foods cause surface stains over time. Tobacco use leads to stubborn yellow or brown discoloration. Even aging naturally darkens teeth as enamel thins and the yellowish dentin underneath becomes more visible.
At Smile Avenue, we offer two professional whitening options. In-office whitening uses high-concentration gel activated by a special light for results up to 8 shades brighter in a single 60-90 minute visit. Take-home whitening uses custom-fitted trays with professional-grade gel for gradual brightening over 1-2 weeks on your schedule.
Before any whitening treatment, we assess your teeth to make sure whitening is the right option. Cavities, cracked teeth, or gum disease should be treated first. We also check for intrinsic stains (caused by medication or trauma) that don't respond to bleaching and may require veneers or bonding instead.
IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Who Needs Teeth Whitening?
You may benefit from teeth whitening if any of the following apply to you:

- Over-the-counter whitening products haven't given you the results you want

- You're looking for a quick, affordable cosmetic enhancement
- You want professional supervision to avoid sensitivity and protect your enamel
