UNDERSTANDING THE BASICS
What Is Emergency Dentistry?
A dental emergency is any situation involving your teeth, gums, or mouth that requires immediate attention — either to relieve severe pain, stop bleeding, save a tooth, or prevent a condition from getting worse. Dental emergencies can happen to anyone, at any age, often without warning.
Common dental emergencies include severe toothaches that won't go away with over-the-counter pain relief, cracked or broken teeth from biting something hard or trauma, a tooth that's been knocked out completely, a lost filling or crown exposing a sensitive tooth, dental abscesses (infections), and uncontrolled bleeding after dental work or injury.
At Smile Avenue, we understand that dental emergencies are stressful and often frightening. That's why we reserve appointment time every day specifically for urgent cases. When you call with an emergency, our team assesses your situation immediately and gets you in as fast as possible — often the same day.
We have all the diagnostic and treatment tools in-house to handle emergencies efficiently: digital X-rays, 3D CBCT imaging, root canal instruments, extraction tools, and our on-site dental lab for immediate crown or temporary fabrication. You won't be bounced between specialists.
IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Who Needs Emergency Dentistry?
You may benefit from emergency dentistry if any of the following apply to you:
- You have a severe, persistent toothache that isn't responding to pain medication
- You've cracked, chipped, or broken a tooth
- A tooth has been knocked out (partially or completely)
- You've lost a filling, crown, or other dental restoration
- You have a dental abscess — swelling, pus, or a pimple on your gums
- You're experiencing uncontrolled bleeding from the mouth
- You have jaw pain or swelling that's getting worse
